New York City Mission Society
NYC Mission Society is a nonprofit located in New York City. They aim to help end inter-generational poverty through the promotion of education and helping children and achieve a foundation for success. In 2017 I was approached my New York City Mission Society as a freelance designer & developer. They wanted to build a new responsive website from the ground up utilizing the wordpress content management system. The site launched in 2017, and helped them achieve their desired digital presence; however, a few years later they redesigned the site internally. Even though they redesigned the site, they still use the bones of the development work I did during this project.
I took this project from concept to creation. I both designed their website as well as developed the project in the wordpress Genesis framework, utilizing PHP, HTML and CSS languages to create a pixel perfect design that was integrated with the wordpress CMS system to their internal team could easily manage the site.
This freelance client came to me because they needed a new responsive online presence that would better severe up their mission statement, events, and information to their general userbase. They also needed a better way to guide users to donate online, and explore what they are doing for the community at large.
I worked closely with the client and their team to outline the project scope, develop a timeline with milestones that would reach their business goals. I explored user experience research options and applied usability best practices to the design, while creating a visual language from their developed brand that would successfully their personality on a digital presence. I moved this project into development on a standard local environment, serving up completed prototypes for client review. I worked with the clients internal IT team to prepare the site to go live and acted as a liaison with their hosting provider to ensure a successful launch of their new website.
After launch the client reported increased website traffic, and engagement. Their internal team also reported increased ease of site management, and update implementation.
